An upcoming text-based rpg being developed with the RPG Module for Drupal.

Steamchiggers

It's unknown whether they were created intentionally and became rogue, such as by an ancient robotics manufacturer, whether they were created as a practical joke, or whether they evolved spontaneously as a semi-intelligent complex system. Steamchiggers have been the bane of civilization for nearly all of recorded history, and probably had several origins in many places.

Whatever their origin, steamchiggers have lately become a pest on the substation. Steamchiggers usually infest industrial areas and reclaiming centers. In the warzones of the substation, they have claimed new niches in the chaos, finding refuge in abandoned quarters and demolished corridors.

Musings about War in Spindowners, Part I

What will war be like in a society where people are effectively immortal? Where corporate armies are better funded and outfitted than government militaries? Where technology has progressed to the point that it resembles the modern conception of magic?

Human brains are encapsulated in a symbiotic skull made of an organic metal. A person could fall into a star, and the skull would continue to protect the brain, skimming along the surface, gathering energy and matter, and eventually create a sail to propel it back into space. When in an environment more suitable, it would reform its body, and continue life.

new theme

Using a different theme to play around with ideas to spark the final look (for alpha/beta anyway). Updated the core to Drupal cvs/4.8/5.0/whatever, so that means the game module will need to be branched. (Already having some problems with that.) More later!

Voost Ship

Nomenclature

"Voost ship" is a bit of a misnomer -- it's a Standard Language mistranslation of the Kraken phrase "tikaltran vushlt migabin tagabobozoot", which is more literally translated as "big cargo bay space worm who listens to the sky radio." In an attempt for political correctness, some people refer to them as "vushlt worms," but this would be the equivalent of calling them "space worm worms". When emphasizing their organic and sentient status, it's generally accepted to refer to them simply as the "vushlt" or "voost". Common folk refer to them as "voost ships" or "space worms".

Retablo Fantástico de Maese Pedro

During your stay at Dryad-Fellows Substation X, why not drop into Retablo Fantástico de Maese Pedro for a spell? With entertainments on the hour, Maese Pedro's droids will amuse and entrance you. Performing masterful tragedies, side-splitting comedies, and witty custom improvs.

Savor a feast fit for kings during the show. Our dinners are made the old-fashioned way; grown from hydroponic gardens and meat tanks, not just the same-old biopaste.

Maese Pedro, master puppeteer and engineer, also leases and sells droids, with stock and custom programs. Why not try one today?

Razmars

From the system of Genalpir VII, Razmars were all the rage for personal security at one time. Until the fines from vicous attacks to innocent bystanders ended up costing their owners more than they were worth.

These squat, razor-fanged creatures are all bite and no bark. Standing about three feet high, they run quickly on their six legs. When untrained, they attack anything that moves. They have no eyes, but rather use their dozens of long, thin, wriggling antennae to remotely detect their food. Although they may be trained if impressed from hatching, they are still prone to occassional violent lapses, and may even sometimes turn on their owners.

Sorry to be a bummer...

I know this is sad, but I was trying to post a response to your post about having to create a bug forum and got this error:

Validation error, please try again. If this error persists, please contact the site administrator.

Kinda funny when this was the text of my message:

I'll try not to fill it up too quickly. ;-)

The code seems pretty solid so far, and I'm sure we can expect some more. Keep up the good work!

C'est la vie..

The Guard

The elite of the Empire's armed forces, the Guard are trained from birth in martial arts, weapons, strategy, and military protocol. Their distinctive dress uniform is a black jumper with a single red stripe down each side and a simple badge on the chest denoting rank. Many in the Guard shave half their head and keep a long braided ponytail. Though they may be awarded medals for acts of courage, they generally disdain a public display of them, for they believe the highest honor is to be a member of the guard.

The Guard report directly to the Emperor. Their primary mission is protecting the Emporer, and protecting his interest. Besides the occassional guard duty, members of the Guard may be called to escort important shipments, put down rebellions, or even assassinate political opponents.

Error Message

I received the following message in red when responding to the Ali Oop post. (Not sure whose that was..)

warning: call_user_func_array(): First argumented is expected to be a valid callback, 'engine_access_default' was given in /home/aaronwin/domains/spindowners.com/public_html/modules/game/game.module on line 497.

Also, perhaps it would do to have a forum where bugs could be reported and gameplay/balance issues could be discussed.

Updates and Map Making

Morbus posted an article about map making over at Drupal. Some parts are a bit technical, but anyone who hasn't already seen that might want to take a look. I haven't decided entirely how maps & rooms will be here, it obviously will depend to a large extent with how things develop with the Game API. I'm intrigued about the graphical nature that Morbus seems to intend. I had been thinking only in terms of text links. This might allow Spindowners to come roaring into the early 90's...
